What is i-doit?

i-doit is a web-based software solution for comprehensive and detailed IT documentation.

It can be purchased both on premises and in the cloud. The software allows you to record data on all aspects of your IT landscape. By mapping relationships between objects, i-doit can be used to create a fully-fledged CMDB. Thanks to the numerous interfaces, third-party systems such as discovery and monitoring can be connected to i-doit. In this way, i-doit serves as the basis for a complete ITSM solution.

What size of company is i-doit suitable for?

The i-doit data model allows IT documentation of any size. This makes the software suitable for companies of all sizes.

Can I test i-doit in advance?

Yes, please use our 30-day trial version. This is available as an on-premises version and as a virtual machine. In addition to all i-doit add-ons developed by i-doit GmbH, the trial version also includes support for a full month. Test here for free!

How do I get my test license/test version?

To receive your trial version with the corresponding license key, click here. You can select your desired trial version on the following pages. You will then receive an e-mail with all the details for downloading the software and the license key or for automatically creating your cloud instance. Test here for free!

What functions does my 30-day trial version contain?

The trial version is a fully functional IT documentation system that allows you to create up to 5,000 objects. You have access to all add-ons developed by i-doit GmbH. In addition, further i-doit add-ons from third-party manufacturers are available for testing.

How can I test an on-premises version?

The following downloads are available.

Virtual machine:
The virtual machine contains a complete i-doit installation on a Debian GNU/Linux 12.

Windows Installer:
The Windows Installer provides a complete i-doit environment on Microsoft server systems. The installation is done with one click.

Automatic installation:
An interactive bash script guides you through all configurations on a Linux system and installs the required components

Manual installation:
Web server, database, PHP and i-doit are installed and configured manually. Backups and cronjobs must also be set up independently.

How can I test a cloud version?

Can i-doit up be tested free of charge?

Yes, you can simply do a free trial period.

What can be documented with i-doit up?

With i-doit up, you can record all information that is of value to your company. This includes IT systems, software, licenses, servers and networks as well as buildings, rooms and workstations. Non-IT assets such as contracts, office furniture and keys can also be clearly documented.

Can access to information be restricted?

Yes. i-doit up offers a very finely graduated authorization concept. Access rights can be broken down to individual users, roles or departments. For example, certain people or teams can be given read-only access to defined assets or asset groups.

What advantages does i-doit up offer compared to Excel?

With i-doit up, all participants work on a central and consistent database instead of with many separate Excel files. In addition, dependencies and relationships between assets can be mapped. Changes or relevant events can be monitored automatically and communicated via notifications.

Can existing Excel lists be transferred?

Yes, existing Excel files can be easily imported into i-doit up using the CSV import function. The columns of the tables are assigned to the appropriate data fields and automatically used to create new objects.

Can suppliers and service providers be recorded?

Yes, external companies and persons can be fully documented. In addition, contacts can be assigned specific roles or functions if required.

Can mobile devices be documented?

Yes. i-doit up allows you to record smartphones, tablets and other client devices. SIM cards can be documented, linked to each other and assigned to the corresponding contracts.

What does it cost to use the API? The API is included in i-doit up as a free add-on and is not subject to any limitations. You can make unlimited API calls.
Can I create my own device classes and data fields? Yes. i-doit up allows you to create any number of individual device classes and data fields. The corresponding functions are available in the administration area.
Can I create my own reports? Yes, the integrated Report Manager can be used to create fully customized reports. Authorized users can call these up or adapt them at any time. All data fields available in i-doit up can be used for filtering, for example by device class, model, location or last modification date. The results can be exported as a CSV or PDF file.
Is it possible to document networks and VLANs? Yes, networks and VLANs can be easily mapped in i-doit up. You also get a visual representation of your networks, including the components and IP addresses they contain.
Can PDF documents be generated from the documentation? Yes, with the Documents add-on, information fromi-doitup can be merged into structured documents such as manuals, concepts or certificates.
Can an ISMS be implemented with i-doit up? Yes, with i-doit up and the Suite+ you can set up an ISMS in accordance with IT baseline protection or ISO 27001. Risks, technical and organizational measures and their links can be documented and evaluated centrally.

How many devices can I scan with the trial licence?

 The trial licence includes 7,800 JDisc Credits, which corresponds to approximately 1,000 discovered devices on your network — giving you ample opportunity to test the solution thoroughly. 

Can I use i-doit discovery on Linux or Unix?

i-doit discovery runs exclusively on Microsoft Windows operating systems. A Windows Server system is recommended, though Windows 10 or 11 is sufficient for testing purposes. 

Do I need additional software to import data into the CMDB?

No — the required interface is already built into i-doit. 

How many i-doit objects can I document with the trial version?

 The i-doit pro licence included in the trial allows you to document up to 5,000 objects.

How can I order i-doit products?

How is i-doit licensed?

i-doit is licensed as a subscription. With this licensing model, a usage fee is paid in advance for the selected term. We offer flexible terms starting at 1 month. Please note: for terms of 12 months or more, the price is reduced by 20%.

What is an object?

An object corresponds to an asset or configuration item (CI), e.g. a server, a router or a client PC. An operating system or an office application, a contract or a licence are also considered objects in i-doit.

What is a subscription?

In this licensing model, the user of a software pays a regular amount for a pre-selected term in order to be able to use the software. i-doit is offered as a subscription.

Which object package do I need?

The number of objects you need depends entirely on your individual requirements. The more detailed and comprehensive your documentation is to be, the more objects you will create. Calculate with about 20 objects per person in an organisation.

What licence sizes are available?

i-doit is available in the three standard packages i-doit pro small (1,000 objects), i-doit pro medium (5,000 objects) and i-doit pro large (10,000 objects), as well as i-doit pro flex (>10,000 objects)..

Are there licences for e.g. 2,500 or 7,500 objects?

No. Up to and including 10,000 objects, only our standard packages with 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 objects are available.

Can I freely choose the number of licensed objects with i-doit pro flex? Yes. If you want to license more than 10,000 objects, you can determine the number of possible objects individually. If you need more than 50,000 objects, please contact our team at sales@i-doit.com.
Can I upgrade/downgrade a licence? A licence can be upgraded at any time. Remaining amounts from a current subscription are automatically credited. A downgrade is only possible at the end of the respective term. In this case, the previous licence will be cancelled and a new one issued.
Can I extend my contract at any time? Yes. An extension with additional objects (CIs), further add-ons or an extended support option is possible at any time, even during the term of the contract.
What payment options do customers outside Germany have?

As a customer from abroad, you have two payment options. You can transfer outstanding amounts directly to our account:

Are USD price lists available? i-doit is billed exclusively in Euro. Prices in other currencies are charged at the current exchange rate.

Term extension & termination

Do the terms extend automatically?

Yes. If you do not cancel at least two (2) weeks before the licence expires, the term is automatically extended by the same period.

How do contracts of less than 12 months renew?

For licenses less than 12 months, the term is extended by the period selected. For example, if you have selected a license for six months, the contract will be extended by a further six months if you have not cancelled it at least two weeks before the license expires.

What notice periods apply?

Cancellations must be received by us at least two (2) weeks before the expiry of the license.

Do I have to commit to a fixed term at the beginning or can I start with one month?

It is of course possible to start with just a few months. An upgrade to longer terms is also possible at any time during the term.

Can I also terminate my i-doit contract during the term?

Cancellation is only possible at the end of the term.

Can I also terminate my contract on a monthly basis with the monthly model?

As with all other term models, notice of termination must be given at least two (2) weeks before the end of the term. If, for example, you purchased a license for a term of one month on 1 January, your cancellation must be received by us by 15 January at the latest.

Support & product support

How exactly are support costs calculated - even for upgrades?

A support option is always calculated as a percentage surcharge on the i-doit per license price. In the case of upgrades, the support surcharge will also increase proportionately. To ensure the cost-effectiveness of the support offer, the support option is always charged at the full price for the entire term – regardless of the time of purchase.

Are the add-ons included in the support?

The costs for the support options include support for all add-ons offered by i-doit GmbH itself (e.g. analysis and documents). Additional support costs may apply for add-ons from third-party manufacturers. You can find an overview of these in our price list.

What support options are available and what do they cost?

We offer our english speaking customers our basic support option. The prices for our support services can be found in our price overview.

Please note that some third-party add-ons may incur separate support costs.

Is remote support available?

Remote support is only available in conjunction with our Advanced support, which we currently do not offer to customers outside the DACH region. For all product support questions, you have the option to choose our basic support option.

Is support also available in other languages, e.g. English?

English language support is available as part of a Basic Support contract.

Basic technical questions

Can I set the number of available objects individually for each client?

Yes. You can define any number of available objects for each client as long as they do not exceed the maximum of available objects in the i-doit licence.
